Several close-in areas with Austin mailing addresses are separate cities with their own permitting, including West Lake Hills and Rollingwood, so the first step is confirming which jurisdiction your lot is in. ### More homes per lot Austin's HOME amendments changed what single-family lots can hold. Phase 1, in effect since February 5, 2024, allows up to three homes on most single-family lots. Phase 2, in effect since August 16, 2024, cut the minimum lot size from 5,750 to 1,800 square feet.
