About Beverly Hills

Designing in Beverly Hills.

Beverly Hills is the city itself — and inside the city limits, the design context shifts block by block. Trousdale is the canonical California-modern bench, designed for the post-war Hollywood crowd and now home to some of the most architecturally ambitious modernist rebuilds in California. The flats — south of Sunset, north of Wilshire — is the most architecturally diverse luxury grid in LA, with French traditional sitting next to contemporary sitting next to Spanish Mediterranean. North of Sunset is the older money, the larger lots, and the deeper architectural history.

We design across all three contexts. Trousdale rebuilds where the constraint is being more modern than the modernists. Flats projects where the constraint is fitting a new architectural language into an architecturally specific block. North-of-Sunset estates where the constraint is the heritage of the existing structure and the discretion of the neighbors. The visualization-first workflow lets us test how the proposed design reads from the street, from the neighbors' sightlines, and from inside every room — before permit drawings commit the architecture.

FAQs

Common questions about designing in Beverly Hills.

Does Beverly Hills have different permit processes than the City of LA?

Yes. Beverly Hills is its own municipal jurisdiction with its own Building & Safety, Planning, and Design Review processes. Permits, design review, and inspections all run through the City of Beverly Hills directly. Timelines are typically tighter than LA City but more aesthetically scrutinized.

Can you design Trousdale-vocabulary modernist projects?

Yes. Trousdale projects are a particular specialty inside our Beverly Hills work. The Trousdale vocabulary — single-story massing, walls of glass, indoor-outdoor flow, mid-century material palette modernized — is something we have specific portfolio depth in.

Do you handle full architectural design, or just interiors in Beverly Hills?

Full architectural design, full interior design, or both. About half our Beverly Hills work is architecture + interior + FF&E end-to-end. The other half is interior-only refresh / FF&E on existing architecturally significant homes where the owner is preserving the architecture.

What about the flats — Mediterranean traditional, French traditional?

Yes. The flats are the most stylistically diverse grid in luxury LA, and we design across the full vocabulary — Mediterranean revival, French traditional, contemporary, and Spanish Colonial revival. The work is matching the new design to the existing architectural language of the block.

Can you handle the design review process?

Yes. Beverly Hills design review is more rigorous than LA City equivalent. We prepare submission packages (massing studies, materials boards, neighbor-impact analysis, view-corridor studies) directly for the Beverly Hills design review boards.
